Very Merry Readathon 2020 Wrap Up

The fifth round of Very Merry Readathon ran from 13th – 19th December and was a perfect excuse to get some Christmas reading in. The dates fell particularly well for me as I had a couple of days annual leave already booked which definitely helped in meeting all the prompts!

Fantastic Mr Fox ★★★★☆
Ghost of Christmas Past – A Book from Your Childhood/An Old Favourite
I started with some Roald Dahl, which eight year old me adored.  I’d forgotten just how quick of a read this is so this was a great way to kick off the readathon.

Another Night Before Christmas ★★★★★
Scrooge – A Book with Gold on the Cover
I have a small collection of Carol Ann Duffy Christmas poetry books and this is my favourite, another super quick read.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy ★★★★☆
Ghost of Christmas Present – A Book You Feel Like Reading in the Present
I’ve read this before but this time revisited via the audiobook which is read by Stephen Fry. Now I’m really keen to re-watch the film and continue the rest of the series.

The Christmasaurus ★★★★☆
Tiny Tim – A Book with Disability Representation
This was completely delightful! I read this on my Kindle so only got the black and white illustrations but the characters, writing and overall message are just so lovely, this is a book I’ll be buying in hardback in the future if there are ever any little ones running around it just felt like the perfect book to be read aloud together.

Murder on the Orient Express ★★★★☆
Ghost of Christmas Future – A Book That Intimidates You
My first Agatha Cristie and I really wish I’d read it sooner; I’ve seen a couple of adaptations so was aware of ‘whodunit’ but I found the writing really enjoyable. If you have any recommendations of which Poirot book I should go to next please let me know.

A Christmas Carol ★★★★☆
Bonus Challenge – Read the Group Book
A classic I revisit every few years, I also made my husband watch Mickey’s Christmas Carol which was my first introduction to the story many years ago, via VHS no less; its now on Disney+ and I’d really recommend giving it a go if you have a spare 25mins.
