Book Blogger Hop ~ 14th August 2020

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s prompt was submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer

How often do you visit your local library?

I love my library, I’m lucky to be walking distance from my local one which is part of a bigger county (Suffolk) network – not sure if libraries work like that in other countries but essentially when I request books they can come from anywhere in Suffolk for me to collect from my nearest one.

Obviously at the moment I’m not visiting regularly – I got to go on Saturday for the first time since February to collect a reservation, it was by appointment and I wasn’t able to go in, I was handed my book at the door. Regardless I’m really happy their services are starting to return.

Before March I would visit a couple of times a month, mainly to collect reservations as I didn’t really go in to browse much. I’d also visit the ‘for sale’ shelves where on a good day I could pick up four large print books the library were finished with for £1 to take home for my Dad.

I’m also part of my library support scheme, their services are largely free, including reservations but I opt to pay a small annual charge to support the work they do.

Looking forward to reading this week’s blog hopper posts about your local libraries – as I’m guessing my small local library will be quite different to those in cities or other countries.

  1. You guys are so fortunate. If I ever consider leaving South Africa, I will have to immigrate to Suffolk.

Libraries are not big here with us… Here’s my Weekend Book Friends where you can read more about it.

    Happy weekend!

  2. The library system is similar here in North Carolina in the US. Libraries are run county-wide and you can request a book from any branch in that county and it will be sent to your local one. It is such a great system ❤️

  3. Sadly, since my children have grown older, I’ve been using my local library less and less over the years. I think my reading preferences are too niche. Lol! I’m glad that yours is so fab though.
