First line Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Wandering Words. The premise is all around judging a book by its first sentence rather than its cover. Simply choose a book from your TBR or one you’re currently reading and copy the first line(s), just enough to try and hook the reader, then reveal the book you’ve chosen.
“How could Oliver be so cruel? Meg Preston wiped the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hand, sat up and hugged her knees, trying to process everything that had happened.”
This first two lines really start this book off with so many questions, we get two character names really quickly, presumably, they have some sort of relationship but it could be a romantic relationship, he could be a relative, a work colleague.
Single All The Way∆ by Karen King
I’ve included this as I’m planning on starting it on Sunday for Very Merry Readathon, I picked it up in October while looking for light, Christmas reads so I’m hoping the mood is going to lighten up from those first couple of lines since this was dubbed a “romantic and heart-warming novel”.
You can currently pick this one up for just £1.99 on Kindle (December 2019).
What are your thoughts on reading Christmas themed books at this time of year? Is it all a bit much or does it help you get into the spirit of things?
